5 Steps to Covid-19 Proof Your Non-Profit

by Simba 2 min read

We are living in challenging times, businesses and non-profits are closing down, and the world seems to be in a chaotic state; however, some businesses and non-profits are thriving in the present climate. Companies that adapt and innovate are doing better than ever, so why can’t your non-profit succeed during these turbulent times? At Spendow, we care about Non-profits, and we want to see you not only survive but thrive, that’s why we have compiled our 5 step survival guide for non-profits.

Step 1: Start Again

You may have lost a significant amount of funding, making this the perfect opportunity to review your non-profits day to day operations and fundraising plan. If you offer a program or a service that doesn’t add any value in these circumstances, it may be time for you to put that program on pause for the time being. This will provide you with the opportunity to provide relief to those who have been hardest hit by COVID 19. People are more likely to donate to what you are doing if they can see the direct impact it is making.

Step 2: Clarify your vision.

This is the most crucial stage of the process; this is where you define the vision and plan for your best and worst-case scenarios. If you are clear about the vision, it will be easier for others to take hold of it and run with it. You need to ensure that your employees and volunteers understand what you are trying to achieve in the new normal.

Step 3: Describe your need and implement

After you have done your planning, this will provide the opportunity to pitch your plan to your donors and market it to the broader community. Make sure that you communicate the strategy on how you are going to effectively and efficiently use your donor’s funds. People are more likely to donate when there is a clear and concise plan of how the organization wants to move forward.

Step 4: Ask for help.

We all have blind spots- areas where we aren’t as strong as gifted as others. That is why we must enlist help from people outside our organization. If people believe and buy into what you are doing, they won’t have any problem volunteering their time and using their skillset to make a difference in the lives of others. Remember we are in a technological revolution, attaining help from marketers, video editors and graphic designers could be the game-changer your organization needs.

Step 5: Keep your donors updated.

It is crucial to make sure your donors know that they are valued; foster an authentic relationship with the donors. Provide regular updates on what is going on within your organization. 100% Transparency, this could mean just telling them that we are “okay”. They have a personal interest in your organization and would love to see you succeed. If they know what’s going on, they are likely to continue to donate.
